Six weeks into the lockdown, Britons have adjusted to being confined to their homes, but it’s certainly not an easy thing. Take comfort though from the fact that by remaining indoors, you are doing your bit to protect our wonderful NHS and saving lives.
Staying busy and keeping yourself occupied will help a little if you’re finding it a struggle, and you can do that by attending to those jobs around the house that you’ve been meaning to do for ages.
Whether you’re home alone or in isolation with several family members, it’s time to show your home some love. Get your DIY head on and go for it!
Stick these tasks on your to-do list and then get them crossed off:
Refresh the appearance of a room with a repaint
Could a room or two in your house do with a change of colour scheme or just a general touching up of colour? Get a pot of paint and a few paintbrushes to have them repainted in no time.
You can make smaller rooms feel bigger by choosing a pale or light colour. If you want a shade in sync with the spring season, a yellow or mint green colour will inject a vibrant feel into a space and make it beautifully bright inside.
A popular trend right now for repainting rooms is to use different colours on skirting boards and doors.
To just mask any marks or scuffs on walls, floors and doors, apply a stain blocker to them.
Repair things that are loose or broken and upcycle
Can you ever remember a time when nothing in your house needed mending or fixing? We very much doubt it as there’s always something requiring a repair.
Do some of the handles on your kitchen cabinets feel loose or do you have a tap in the bathroom that slightly leaks? Take out your toolbox and fix them yourself. Not sure how to do it? Consult a YouTube video for visual guidance. You have it in you to fix most things for free.
Bring out your creative side and look to see what ‘bits and bobs’ around the house can be turned from trash into treasure.
Realise the full potential of your garden
With the weather being so good, you should be out in the garden at every opportunity you get – you need that fresh air in your lungs.
Normally at this time of year, we would encourage you to invite the outdoors indoors, but right now, we would encourage the reverse and tell you to take the indoors outdoors.
Have seating areas set up on the patio so that you can sit out and enjoy the sounds of nature while the kids get on with building their outdoor dens on the lawn. Stay out till late if you want, but you’ll only be able to do it if you have torches, candles and lanterns for company. In case it turns cold at night, lay out some cosy textures (thick blankets and throws) that you can snuggle under to keep warm.
If you have bigger home improvement plans in mind for your home for after the lockdown is over, West Yorkshire Windows has a FREE Online Design Appointment Service you can use from home to get them properly organised with our team.
