Our Mini Guide To Improving Your Home’s Energy Efficiency

Top of the agenda for our new Prime Minister, Liz Truss, was to try and do something to help homeowners with their energy bills, following an unprecedented rise in the cost of household fuel over the last 12 months or so.

Her response has been to freeze the current energy price cap, which will remain at £2,500 per year for the next two years.

This will go some way towards helping homeowners, but it unsurprisingly won’t be enough for a lot of them as they have practically doubled in cost in such a short space of time.

If you need to make a bigger saving, West Yorkshire Windows has compiled some great energy efficiency tips you can use:

Spend less time in the shower

It’s easy to linger under the shower for longer than you probably should do when it’s cold outside and hot water is pumping out of it.

Try and get out of the habit of doing this and see if you can knock a couple of minutes off your showering time. Setting a stopwatch will be a good way of making sure that you don’t waste both money and water by over-showering.

Keep hanging out your wet washing outside

Summer 2022 wasn’t just one of the hottest on record. It was also one of the driest we’ve ever had, and if the warm and dry weather continues into winter, you should peg out your clothes on the washing line.

Using your radiators and / or tumble dryer to dry clothes costs money and in both instances, it leads to moisture building up, and this moisture can manifest itself as condensation on your windows.

Install some energy efficient windows & doors

Are you losing heat from your home through your existing windows and doors? If so, this will come at a heavy cost and needs to be sorted out.

What’s required is the installation of our energy efficient replacement windows and doors, which will minimise heat loss, promote heat transference from the sun and improve heat retention. Without overworking your boiler, your home will be warmer and it shouldn’t cost you as much for this privilege.
